Congratulations, you got engaged over the holidays! As the engagement celebrations start to die down, you may be wondering…what comes next?! Well, welcome to the wonderful world of wedding planning. For some, wedding planning can come quite naturally, but for most the timelines and restrictions can come as a shock. Calm down, we’re here to help you every step of the way when it comes to ordering your dream wedding stationery efficiently and on time.
When it comes to ordering your “wedding paper” there are so many timelines and options to consider, so we’re here to break it all down for you.
So, what comes first? Establishing your guest list, creating your wedding website and ordering your save the dates. Wedding websites are something a lot of couples are opting to do because it’s the easiest way to get lots of wedding day information to your guests. It’s important to give your guests a permanent landing page to reference with all the information they will need when planning their trip to your wedding. Instead of bothering the bride and the groom, guests can reference the wedding website with any questions they may have. It’s a win/win. We recommend that this is one of the first things you do during the wedding planning process.
About 6-9 months before the wedding, we advise sending out your save the dates giving your guests more than enough time to plan flights and hotel accommodations. Once the save the dates are sent out, you should have an idea of what your wedding theme will be, which will help when choosing your dream wedding invitations. Create a Pinterest board and you will notice a theme come together right before your very eyes. We also recommend ordering samples so you’re able to touch and visualize what you want in person before making such a big decision.

Once you’re 4-6 months away from your wedding day, we recommend ordering your wedding invitations and thank you cards. This gives you more than enough time to communicate with us and your family members, while working out any changes and kinks in the written content of the invitations.

With 2 months until your wedding day, you will want to send out your invitations and order any additional wedding stationery you may want for your special day: programs, menus, place cards, table numbers…etc). We can assist you with all of those items at PAPER & LACE.

Once your wedding day has come and gone, don’t forget to send us pictures of your special day! We love hearing back from our couples after everything said and done. Enjoy your time as newlyweds, but don’t forget to send out your Thank You cards at least 3 months after the wedding. Our advice is to write and send out Thank You cards to your elder guests FIRST, since it means the most to them, while saving the Thank You cards to your friends and younger guests for the end.
Again, congratulations on your engagement! By now, you’re starting to gather information and understand all that goes into the wedding planning process. Enjoy every moment of it, you only get to do it once!
